#itooammills or better yet #millsismine
I’m about to be the most real and seriously uninhibited in public and in writing as I’ve ever been so beware: In regards to the long history of racism at Mills College in Oakland, that it would seem some white folks are only now aware of and even some are still denying - if you needed a definition of white privilege, there it is…your obliviousness.
To those that wrote the post (that the Black women on campus should be lynched), then posted it anonymously to the Mills FB Confessions page and continue to write it in secret on bathroom walls and shit: fuck you, Mills is mine.
That’s right coward, #wetooaremills and I paid much money, much brain sweat and much time earning my degree. Don’t even think for a minute you get to take that away. Mills is mine, call it back pay or reparations. I don’t give a fuxk.
And that’s the piece of this you don’t ever want to talk about. Your ancestral guilt, that you deny exists, for slavery.
You state secretly that you want to hang my body from a tree on my campus because we are too vocal instead of owning your fear that we have a right to our anger, our voice, our dislike of the system and that if angered enough, voices strong enough, dislike urgent enough, we might become you and treat you as horrible as you and yours have treated us and ours for hundreds of years.
You actually fear that we are you and in our rightful anger we might seek retribution by burning your bodies in bonfires, raping your women and breeding more bodies to burn, incarcerating you for simply being white, vulture your culture simply cause we can, stand our ground and just shoot you cause your exist? But here’s what you don’t understand: we are not you.
(By the grace of god we are not you. Our humanity still exists. But don’t let compassion fool you for weakness.)
And there you are wrapped up in that guilt and fear and don’t even know it and come to my campus completely lacking self-awareness and stupid, you think Mills is yours. It might have been but like I said I’m making it mine. Fuxk off.
But I thank you for bringing this stupidity to light for all the nation to see. Darkness always comes to light.
You don’t get to decide what is ours. And you know this, which is why you and the likes of you hide behind words written in the dark or even the title professor (yeah I said it). If you were a real Mills woman you’d come say that shit to my face. But alas, like fuctards before you, you sneak around in the dark or make shady racist comments in the classroom but only to traditional undergrads.
Wanna be a Boss? Speak up punk. Say your words to a 40 yr old Black woman who is oh so very close to simply not giving a fuxk. Say your truth out loud and I’ll do the same. After you pick your face up off the ground, we’ll go from there.
And a note to all my white friends at Mills and worldwide: your silence does not protect you.
